The Journey - 2008

 

This year’s Journey will be our 7th annual summer camp hosted by the Riverbend Student ministry.  Each year we have made improvements to our camp and this time around we believe the experience will be even better. 

            For the sixth year in a row, we will hold Summer Camp at the YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly in Black Mountain, North Carolina.  We have found that this conference facility provides us with all of the facets for the optimum summer camp experience, which includes a picturesque campus, ideal meeting space and accommodations, various recreational amenities, a wide array of meal options with great food, a friendly and hospitable YMCA staff, close proximity to off-campus activities, and much more!  On top of that, with the ability to plan our own camp, we get to select the best program to fit the biblical desires that we have for our students and leaders.  The Journey 2008 will take place on Monday, July 28th through Saturday, August 2nd. Drop-off and pick-up times will be announced later.

            If you have been a part of our camp in years past you will recognize the change in date for The Journey.  Camp has always been around the first week of June.  There are three reasons for why we have pushed the dates back.  First, the final day of school for Volusia County students is June 6th, a rather inconvenient time for the normal dates of our Summer Camp.  Second, we have the exciting opportunity of adding several more churches to our attendance this year.  Last year three churches, including Riverbend, attended The Journey.  This summer we may have seven to eight churches involved.  Many of the students fall into the same predicament of school overlapping with our normal dates.  Third, these dates provide us with sole occupation of the YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly campus.  In the past we have had to share the premises with another large group and have second choice on the use of facilities.  July 28th – August 2nd give us much more freedom and flexibility to enjoy our location to its fullest extent.

            Last year’s cost for The Journey was $330.  Blue Ridge Assembly has raised their price $10, so based on current travel rates, the price for this year’s camp will be $330.  The cost for The Journey 2008 includes rooming, most meals, transportation, program activities and a camp t-shirt.  Students will need to take an additional amount of money for (3-4) fast food meals during travel (approx. $15-$25 total).  Any additional spending money is at your discretion. The cost includes a non-refundable deposit of $60 that is due Sunday, March 16.  We would like to help you fulfill this financial commitment by seeking various work opportunities for you from members of our church.  However, we cannot line up jobs for you until your deposit has been turned in.  Sign-ups for work opportunities will be available during Sunday evening Life Groups and Wednesday nights before service.  A suggested payment plan will be released in the near future after we know the firm amount for camp.  Every camp attender will also need to submit a Medical Release Form.
